Agricultural and forestry techniques for the humid tropics: concepts and perspectives [forest trees, crops]].
MetadatosMostrar el registro completo del ítem
A definition of agroforestry techniques is given, together with a classification system based upon 3 independent criteria. In view of the multitude of possible combinations and the complexity of the interactions between the components, the principal research hypotheses should be formulated within 3 distinct fields: economics, ecology and silviculture. The economics aspect is illustrated by the presentation of results, pertaining to "combined agro-silvicultural" and "combined forestry and grazing" systeMON, obtained from investigations to date at the Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (CATIE), Turrialba, Costa Rica. A description is given of the in situ phases of investigation which will hopefully produce the criteria needed to design management alternatives for the forest component when in association with crops and/or pasture.
